We have to add a changes.txt for the numeric flexible queryparser, I think this is still missing. Adriano?

Are we going to try to get SOLR-2242 in this release?
I created the feature and I am effectively lost between Ryan McKinley, Chris Male and Yonik's comments. I thought we had something that worked, and we could enhance it later. IF this is not ready - as it appears - then we need a committer to help get it out the door. Who can spend some time to direct traffic? I reviewed and overall looks good.
I added a facet section to src/site/**/lucene-contrib/index.xml and checked in to 3x and 3.4 branch. However, I fail to run Forrest on my computer, complains about validation stuff. I will try to resolve this, but I don't know what happened - it used to work in the past with no problems. I don't know if we should spin another RC because of this change, but the facets feature are almost invisible currently. We also had some changes in the flexible QueryParser, so we should respin
(ok mostly documentation, but without a respin, the backwards breaks and new features are not visible to the end user, which is bad). From my experience this is just starting the build script again J and waiting a few minutes. We should respin because of the missing changes, as there are backwards breaks in the flexible query parser that are otherwise undocumented and would annoy users.

Indeed it was the Java version. I am now able to run forrest fine. So I'll update the .html files soon. RE: [VOTE] Release Lucene/Solr 3.4.0, RC1Uwe Schindler 2011-09-11, 21:46
Hi,
+1 I checked the Lucene Core JAR file as drop-in replacement for PANGAEA, works without any problem. Did reindex some documents, checkindexed, optimized, checkindexed again. All fine, no 1.6.0_24 crashes all is working as it should. Code compiles fine, too. We are running now on this version with Solaris and MMAP (as usual). I had no time to verify the package contents and md5/sha1 hashes or try Solr, but I think somebody might already have done this. I can verify that the javadoc links to 0racle work again. Changes look fine, one small thing: We have Java 7 try-with-resources support now (our first Java 7 feature!!!), but the note is at wrong position (under BUG FIXES): "LUCENE-3334: If Java7 is detected, IOUtils.closeSafely() will log suppressed exceptions in the original exception, so stack trace will contain them. (Uwe Schindler)" [should be NEW FEATURES] - But that's minor, just if we respin again, but I don't expect this. Mike: Thanks for the great new release and sorry for the respin. Used this build in my classes today at NFJS Boston (sorry Mike - no time to say hi). Solr worked just fine. Can you fix on 3.x for 3.5? > Mike: Thanks for the great new release and sorry for the respin. No problem, it's really easy now: I have it down to a single Python script! I'll commit it to dev-tools... Mike ---------------------------------------------------------------------

+1 All tests passed on my machine.
The Lucene release notes do contain some old highlights like join module. I assume this will be removed, right? By release notes, you mean the draft 3.4 release announcement, ie this wiki page: http://wiki.apache.org/lucene-java/ReleaseNote34 ? > I assume this will be removed, right? This (lucene/contrib/join) is actually new in 3.4.0, so we should highlight it now. Mike ---------------------------------------------------------------------

I was confused about this. I thought the join contrib was released
with 3.3 release, but it wasn't. So we should highlight it now! Good! I'm +1 although I did not do any testing other than using latest 3x branch locally.
