In short it has pretty much the same semantics but you need to wake up "parked" threads with an Unsafe#unpark call. anyway the problem here is totally unrelated to the way we block. I can reproduce the deadlock easily with TestNRTThreads. The problem here is that the stall control can stall the IW even if there is no flush scheduled ie. there is no way to ever "unstall" the fix for this is pretty straight forward, I will open an issue soon. simon > > Dawid > > On Mon, May 21, 2012 at 8:03 AM, Simon Willnauer > <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: >> On Mon, May 21, 2012 at 7:44 AM, Uwe Schindler <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: >>> Moin, >>> >>> I had to kill this one this morning (after 2:45h with 0% CPU); before that I requested stack trace. I am not sure if that is serious. I am working on that test to make it
more reliable or at least reliable in a way that if it fails its really an error otherwise I keep on hunting ghosts. This one is almost never reproducible - which sucks big time! I will raise the lock/wait timeout such that a fail is really a fail. simon On Tue, May 22, 2012 at 8:49 AM, Dawid Weiss <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > This does seem to be something important though: > > [junit4] ERROR 4.82s | > TestDocumentsWriterStallControl.testAccquireReleaseRace > [junit4] > Throwable #1: java.lang.AssertionError: control > claims no stalled threads but waiter seems to be blocked > [junit4] > at > __randomizedtesting.SeedInfo.seed([9CB402821BB69236:A6C812B023565B87]:0) > [junit4] > at org.junit.Assert.fail(Assert.java:93) > [junit4] > at org.junit.Assert.assertTrue(Assert.java:43) > [junit4] > at > org.apache.lucene.index.TestDocumentsWriterStallControl.testAccquireReleaseRace(TestDocumentsWriterStallControl.java:155) > [junit4] > at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method) > [junit4] > at > sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:57) > [junit4] > at > sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:43) > [junit4] > at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:601) > [junit4] > at > com.carrotsearch.randomizedtesting.RandomizedRunner.invoke(RandomizedRunner.java:1969) > [junit4] > at > com.carrotsearch.randomizedtesting.RandomizedRunner.access$1100(RandomizedRunner.java:132) > > Followed by exceptions related to closing leaked threads from an > executor pool I think. > > Dawid > > On Tue, May 22, 2012 at 2:54 AM, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: >> See <http://jenkins.sd-datasolutions.de/job/Lucene-Solr-trunk-Windows-Java7-64/80/changes> >> >> Changes: >> >> [yonik] SOLR-3469: prevent false peersync recovery by recording buffering flags in tlog >> >> ------------------------------------------ >> [...truncated 1330 lines...] >> [junit4] >> [junit4] Suite: org.apache.lucene.search.TestTermScorer >> [junit4] Completed in 0.02s, 3 tests >> [junit4] >> [junit4] Suite: org.apache.lucene.index.TestStressAdvance >> [junit4] Completed in 0.66s, 1 test >> [junit4] >> [junit4] Suite: org.apache.lucene.analysis.TestCachingTokenFilter >> [junit4] Completed in 0.01s, 1 test >> [junit4] >> [junit4] Suite: org.apache.lucene.search.TestNumericRangeQuery64 >> [junit4] Completed in 4.84s, 34 tests >> [junit4] >> [junit4] Suite: org.apache.lucene.index.TestAddIndexes >> [junit4] Completed in 4.17s, 20 tests >> [junit4] >> [junit4] Suite: org.apache.lucene.index.TestSegmentTermDocs >> [junit4] Completed in 0.44s, 5 tests >> [junit4] >> [junit4] Suite: org.apache.lucene.index.TestNorms >> [junit4] Completed in 2.38s, 3 tests >> [junit4] >> [junit4] Suite: org.apache.lucene.search.TestSearcherManager >> [junit4] Completed in 3.32s, 6 tests >> [junit4] >> [junit4] Suite: org.apache.lucene.search.TestPhraseQuery >> [junit4] Completed in 2.02s, 17 tests >> [junit4] >> [junit4] Suite: org.apache.lucene.search.TestTopDocsMerge >> [junit4] Completed in 3.78s, 1 test >> [junit4] >> [junit4] Suite: org.apache.lucene.index.TestIndexWriterDelete >> [junit4] IGNOR/A 0.01s | TestIndexWriterDelete.testApplyDeletesOnFlush >> [junit4] > Assumption #1: 'nightly' test group is disabled (@Nightly) >> [junit4] Completed in 3.20s, 19 tests, 1 skipped >> [junit4] >> [junit4] Suite: org.apache.lucene.store.TestBufferedIndexInput >> [junit4] Completed in 1.13s, 4 tests >> [junit4] >> [junit4] Suite: org.apache.lucene.index.TestIndexWriterForceMerge >> [junit4] Completed in 1.72s, 4 tests >> [junit4] >> [junit4] Suite: org.apache.lucene.index.TestOmitNorms >> [junit4] Completed in 0.81s, 5 tests

As far as I can tell, this appears to perhaps be a windows issue with replication - if the logged errors are involved, it's not finding a file to copy that it's expecting to find. Search me as to why. Certainly seems to be finding them on the linux and freebsd runs.

Windows has the extra issue of not being able to move a file that is open for any reason, so I imagine one would never get to the copy logic in UNIX environments? Even some virus scanners have caused tests (and sometimes even svn) to fail on windows, so hopefully it's nothing like that. We should prob add extra logging when both the move and copy fail to try and pin down exactly why. -Yonik http://lucidimagination.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------

FWIW, I've been looping this test on my Windows 7 VM and I have not seen a single failure.
Perhaps we should have some Windows retry logic? Not the first time we have needed that I think. Hi,
The Jenkins Workspace is installed c:\Jenkins, so outside home dir. In that case it should not be affected by Indexing. I can check this later. > FWIW, I've been looping this test on my Windows 7 VM and I have not seen a > single failure. It happens not all the time. Finally got the same fail on my Windows virt machine - seems harder for me to see, but at least a confirmation.

I ran the test over 100 times before I got a failure - so it won't be easy for me to test any fix attempts - we will probably have to just commit something and wait and see what happens on your jenkins runs. > >> Perhaps we should have some Windows retry logic? Just noticed this seems to happen fairly frequently in the java 7 windows build, but I don't seem to see it in the java 6 windows build.
I'll try and use Java 7 on my win machine when I get chance - should make it easier to experiment with fixes if I can get the same results locally. ---------------------------------------------------------------------

Let me know if you need any help (or if you have questions) wrt to the
new test infrastructure. I am busy with other things at the moment and there are rough edges... I plan to jump into it again once we ship a release (don't know when this going to happen at the moment). This def happens more with Java 7 for me. Rather than seeing it like 1 out of 100 at best, it is now happening about 1 out of 20.
Going on vacation for a week, so not sure if I will figure this out anytime soon, but now at least I can try some things and get more rapid and trustable feedback. > On Thu, May 24, 2012 at 11:59 PM, Mark Miller <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: >> Just noticed this seems to happen fairly frequently in the java 7 windows build, but I don't seem to see it in the java 6 windows build. >> >> I'll try and use Java 7 on my win machine when I get chance - should make it easier to experiment with fixes if I can get the same results locally. >> --------------------------------------------------------------------- >> To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >> For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >> > > --------------------------------------------------------------------- > To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > - Mark Miller lucidimagination.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------
