Is there any experience with using stackoverflow or stackexchange for
solving user problems? Such a system might come in handy for frequently
asked questions. Note that users already tend to post questions to
stackoverflow about Nutch:

What about a dedicated stackexchange, something like 'web crawling'?

In all honesty I've never used Stackoverflow for anything other than
general searching for problems outside of the Nutch archives e.g.
search results included within Google hits.

I don't know too much about it. I think the main problem here is that
people are generally either ignorant of, or ignorant towards the user
and dev lists. That#'s why (from time to time) we see the same dribble
coming up  e.g. whats the difference between nutch-site and
nutch-default (slowly pulling my hair out and ripping my eyeballs out
as I'm writing this!!!)

Having said this, if you think it would be a good idea, fire away by all means.

We have a specific page on the website for FAQs, a Wiki and a mailing list
archive. In many cases people ask on the user list before reading the
tutorial or even googling their problem. Moreover I don't think
Stackoverflow could be an official communication channel for an Apache
project.

I still don't understand why you'd ask a question about such a specific
resource as Nutch on stackoverflow when there is a searchable mailing list
specifically for the project. From what I've seen there - most questions
would have been solved by simply reading the existing Wiki pages or
googling it.

we already have a Q&A page and a Wiki - these can be improved if necessary.
Having yet another resource to take care of would simply mean more hassle,
we are already quite stretched as there aren't many active contributors.
