I can see the description of changes made to the modules are still in
contrib/CHANGES.txt. Are they going to be moved in future to a
modules/CHANGES.txt?

+1. That or we should just start using one CHANGES.txt.

(The benchmark module still has its own CHANGES.txt as it did in contrib FYI)
